Feeding future: How C.P. Vietnam redefining food production from farm to table
Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, CEO of C.P. Vietnam

As the 10,000th tonnes of processed chicken destined for Japan left the gates of the CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex, the surrounding area had already transformed. New residential clusters had emerged, and more companies were setting up operations nearby.

Few could have imagined that this land, once quiet and lined with rubber plantations, would change so dramatically in just a few years.

When asked whether the presence of the $250 million CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex had contributed to that transformation, Pawalit Ua- Amornwanit, CEO of C.P. Vietnam, smiled and replied in Vietnamese, “We would not dare to say we are the only one making a major contribution to the local economy. Still, I believe it is fair to say that we were among the pioneers in this area.”

The three inseparable “Fs” in the Feed – Farm – Food model

What makes you consider CPV Food Binh Phuoc a pioneer?

The CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex began construction at the end of 2018. At that time, the area was mostly still an underdeveloped production ecosystem.

Together with other major enterprises, when a market leader like C.P. Vietnam decided to invest here, it gave confidence to other companies to follow and set up their own factories and businesses. That, in turn, created new jobs for local workers.

CPV Food Binh Phuoc has also just reached a new milestone, exporting 10,000 tonnes of processed chicken to Japan in less than three years since receiving its export licence. I would say that this, too, with support from the government, is another example of pioneering spirit.

Before 2022, Vietnam and Japan had not yet established an official cooperation framework for the export of processed poultry.

To enable CPV Food Binh Phuoc to export to the Japanese market, we owe sincere appreciation to the efforts that promoted trade cooperation between the governments of Vietnam and Japan. This was an important breakthrough that opened the way forward.

Following that, the determination and effort of CPV Food Binh Phuoc were the decisive factors in gaining access to the market.

Japan is known for its exceptionally strict quality standards. Therefore, the acceptance of our processed poultry products produced under the Feed – Farm – Food model is a remarkable achievement.

CPV Food Binh Phuoc is the first integrated facility in Vietnam to accomplish this milestone.

Feeding future: How C.P. Vietnam redefining food production from farm to table
The CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex is one of the most advanced poultry production facilities in Southeast Asia

The Feed – Farm – Food model that you mentioned, which brings food from farm to table, is not new and has been adopted by many enterprises. What makes CPV Food Binh Phuoc’s model distinctive?

At CPV Food Binh Phuoc, we operate a fully integrated management system that covers every stage from feed production and farming to food processing.

The process begins with strict quality control of raw materials used for feed production.

Each batch of feed is tested for residues, pathogens, and nutritional content before being distributed to farms. This ensures that the animals receive safe and high-quality nutrition from the very beginning of the production cycle.

Next comes the farm management system, which uses enclosed housing to minimise the risk of disease and contamination. Inside the barns, temperature, humidity, and ventilation are closely monitored, and farm staff follow rigorous hygiene protocols.

Each bird is health-checked, vaccinated, and recorded in a digital traceability system that connects to a central database for real-time monitoring and control.

Finally, in the slaughtering and processing stages, the CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex uses a combined water and air chilling system together with an automated cutting system to maintain precise temperature control and reduce the risk of contamination.

In summary, every step from farm to table is carefully monitored. The digital traceability system meets inspection requirements from both Vietnamese authorities and international customers, supporting transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain.

Thanks to this comprehensive system, the CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex has been certified with international standards such as HACCP, BRC, ISO 22000, and Halal, and has earned recognition from major trading partners in Japan, Singapore and, Hong Kong.

Leading global brands and local retail networks also place their trust in the company’s food safety management system.

The vision ahead for the complex

What lessons has CPV Food Binh Phuoc learned from exporting 10,000 tons of processed poultry to a demanding market like Japan?

Exporting to Japan has given us valuable experience in complying with food safety systems, traceability requirements, and international standards.

To meet these expectations, we continue to invest in operational processes, upgrade factory technology, and train our workforce.

Our production system is firm in quality and also flexible enough to meet the specific requirements of each market.

For example, within the complex, the hanging of chickens can be performed by machine. However, due to animal welfare requirements in the European Union, this stage must be done manually. Each bird is gently handled by a person before moving to the next steps, and CPV Food Binh Phuoc is fully capable of meeting this requirement.

We can say that successfully entering the Japanese market proves that “Made in Vietnam” processed poultry products have reached international standards. This is the foundation for us to expand into other high-potential markets.

The company has already obtained an export licence for Singapore, and our next goal is to bring our products to the European market, including the United Kingdom.

Feeding future: How C.P. Vietnam redefining food production from farm to table
CPV Food Binh Phuoc’s impressive export milestone to Japan lays the foundation for expansion into other markets

So, is it fair to say that CPV Food Binh Phuoc’s ambition is to become a production complex that supplies food to the global market?

That is correct. With a total investment of $250 million, the CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex has a clear strategy to make Vietnamese processed chicken competitive and successful on a global scale.

In addition to the Feed – Farm – Food model I mentioned earlier, sustainability and environmental responsibility are essential for entering developed markets.

Therefore, the complex invests in recycling by-products such as meat trimmings, feathers, and bones into raw materials for animal feed production. Its wastewater treatment system meets high environmental standards, allowing water to be safely reused in production.

Through the application of circular economy principles and green technologies, CPV Food Binh Phuoc aims to reuse up to 80 per cent of raw materials in pursuit of a zero-waste model.

The complex also applies automation across its fully integrated production process and operates in accordance with globally recognised certifications.

C.P. Group’s motto is to become the “Kitchen of the World”. With early investment and careful preparation, CPV Food Binh Phuoc is steadily turning that vision into reality.

Be Group reports company-wide profitability in 2025

Be posted a positive full-company earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) report on November 11.

Following the announcement, Be has launched a new support package for its driver-partners, with a special focus on students. The programmes include the BE SCHOLAR 2025 scholarship, first-month bonuses, and a 24/7 comprehensive accident insurance plan, aiming to create favourable conditions for students to pursue their education while working.

A representative from Be shared, “Achieving profitability is the moment we accelerate our investment back into our partners, especially students, who represent a young, disciplined cohort possessing a strong professional ethos and service-oriented mindset. When drivers are empowered and motivated, service quality naturally rises.”

Additionally, Be is continuing to invest heavily in its two-wheeler ecosystem, including ride-hailing, on-demand delivery, and food delivery services.

According to Cimigo’s May 2025 report on super-app usage in Vietnam, three of the eight most-used services nationwide come from the two-wheeler segment, where Be currently leads the domestic market with steady growth since reaching positive gross profit in August 2022.

The representative stated, “The two-wheeler market still has significant room for expansion, especially in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and suburban areas. This is the opportune moment for new drivers to join Be and benefit from the new support policies.”

Another report by research firm Rakuten Insight indicates that Be is effectively serving the price-sensitive consumer segment. Specifically, 24 per cent of respondents chose the app for its competitive pricing, while 23 per cent were drawn by its promotional offers. This suggests that while Grab and Xanh SM compete on service quality and availability, Be maintains its competitiveness through a flexible pricing strategy.

While Be accelerates its operations, other rivals are also stepping up their game. Grab, Xanh SM, and other players have continuously injected capital into new services, expanded utilities, optimised user experience, and retained drivers. The competition extends beyond pricing and promotions to the speed of product innovation and platform coverage.

Most recently, Grab Vietnam has announced the expansion of its coverage to nine northern localities. The company aims to expand the reach of its GrabBike and GrabFood services deep into midland and mountainous areas, with a commitment to bringing the digital economy to every village.

From November 12–14 in Washington, D.C., Vietnam and the US held technical-level negotiations on the Fair and Balanced Reciprocal Trade Agreement, led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, head of the Vietnamese delegation, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The sessions focused on advancing discussions and exploring solutions to strengthen the bilateral trade framework.

The negotiations formally began on November 12 with a working session between Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, deputy head of the Vietnamese delegation, and Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer at the Office of the US Trade Representative, marking the official launch of the technical talks.

The working session was held in an open and constructive atmosphere, focusing on bilateral economic and trade relations and following up on outcomes from the eighth ministerial-level negotiations on November 10 between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan discussed key issues from the ministerial talks and agreed on specific topics for the technical negotiating teams to address, ensuring progress towards the most effective results.

Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer acknowledged the positive progress Vietnam has made in trade policy, institutional reforms, and international integration commitments, as well as the results of recent negotiating rounds, while affirming that close cooperation between the two sides will facilitate the negotiation process.

The two sides agreed to continue close coordination and enhance exchanges among the technical groups to advance negotiations on the Fair and Balanced Reciprocal Trade Agreement, in line with the guidance of senior leaders and ministers of both countries, with a view to soon completing a new bilateral trade cooperation framework that contributes to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US.

Immediately following the working session, the negotiating delegations of both countries promptly began work in their respective groups to negotiate the agreed-upon agenda items.

Later that afternoon, Minister Dien held a working session with Rock Bordelon, chairman, along with leaders Charles Paddock and Rodrigo Garza Perez of Gulf of America Energy Sourcing LLC (GAES), a US energy corporation headquartered in Louisiana.

Masan Consumer eyes growth rebound and market listing by 2026

Since October, CHIN-SU and Nam Ngu products have been available at global retail giants Costco in the US and South Korea, and Woolworths in Australia. The move reflects Vietnam’s growing presence in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector and the rising competitiveness of locally developed brands on the global stage.

Masan Consumer, a member of Masan Group, is among Vietnam’s leading FMCG companies. It operates a closed-loop production chain – from raw materials to finished products – that adheres to international standards for quality management and food safety. Central to its innovation capacity is the Consumer Innovation Centre (CIC), which focuses on research and development (R&D) driven by a deep understanding of consumer preferences and shopping behaviour.

MCH’s strategy is built on three pillars: premiumisation, out-of-home consumption, and R&D. Each year, CIC develops over 100 new initiatives, many of which have shaped modern consumer trends, such as Omachi Self-Heating Hotpot, Nam Ngu Ly Son chilli garlic fish sauce, and Wake-Up 247 energy drinks.

By combining strong R&D capabilities with advanced technology, MCH has shortened its product development cycle to under 12 months – about twice as fast as the FMCG industry average. Between 2018 and 2024, nearly 20 per cent of its revenue came from new products, highlighting the strength of its innovation-driven growth strategy.

Expanding into international retail chains further demonstrates MCH’s ability to compete globally, showcasing the growing capacity of Vietnam’s consumer goods sector in quality management, logistics, and compliance with global standards. This milestone also strengthens the position of Vietnamese products within the regional consumer value chain.

Masan Consumer eyes growth rebound and market listing by 2026

After restructuring its distribution network, MCH expects to return to positive growth in Q4, setting a strong foundation for recovery in 2026. The company’s new direct coverage initiative aims to optimise inventory and logistics to ensure products reach points of sale closest to consumers.

“Q3 revenue fell 5.9 per cent on-year and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation were down 7.1 per cent, mainly due to short-term impacts from our new direct coverage model,” said Huynh Viet Thang, CFO of Masan Consumer. “The initiative, now rolled out in 34 provinces, has already started showing positive results since October.”

Centred on people, technology, and connectivity, direct coverage has streamlined operations by restructuring the sales force by region, automating the ordering system, and connecting sales representatives directly with points of sale. As a result, direct coverage has increased by 40 per cent to 345,000 points of sale, while the share of wholesale channels fell from 60 to 30 per cent. Labour productivity rose by 50 per cent, with costs remaining stable.

“Restructuring the distribution system is the right step for medium- and long-term growth,” said Danny Le, CEO of Masan Group. “We are moving towards modernising the entire consumer value chain in Vietnam.”

MCH is expected to return to growth in Q4. The company is also preparing for an initial public offering with advisory from international investment banks.

“The company is likely to list on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange by late 2025 or early 2026, supported by its solid financials and positive market sentiment,” a representative of Masan Group’s board of directors said. “A successful listing would pave the way for inclusion in the VN30-Index, broadening our investor base and reinforcing our position as a leading consumer goods company.”

Masan Group recorded its strongest quarterly profit since early 2022, supported by improved performance across WinCommerce, Masan MEATLife, and Masan High-Tech Materials. Building on this momentum, MCH is expected to enter a new growth phase from late 2025 to 2026 as it completes restructuring and advances plans for a public listing.

Focusing on distribution optimisation, R&D, and international expansion, MCH aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the evolving consumer goods market, positioning itself as a top Vietnamese brand built on quality, innovation, and operational efficiency.

The achievements to date have reinforced PVI AM’s position as a leading asset management company in the fixed-income segment, efficiently meeting the rigorous standards required by institutional insurance investors.

In 2026, PVI AM will build on this advantage by launching a member fund focused on the private debt capital market serving financial and insurance institutions, as well as introducing a public open-ended bond fund for retail investors, aiming to become the top-tier choice in Vietnam’s fixed-income investment market.

The collaboration highlights themes of energy, creativity, and ambition, reflecting the lifestyle of Gen Z, a generation known for embracing new trends and expressing individuality across diverse fields.

Den’s personal journey underpins the campaign. Before rising to prominence in the music scene, he worked in blue-collar jobs unrelated to music, persevering to pursue his artistic ambitions and build a career in the Vietnamese hip-hop industry.

Rapper Den partners with Number 1 in campaign targeting Gen Z

After long days of work, Den would spend his evenings writing rap verses, dedicating effort and focus to each line. Over time, this sustained commitment has produced songs that connect with millions of young listeners.

Over 15 years, Den’s experience illustrates that success in music requires more than talent – consistent effort, passion, and energy are key to overcoming challenges.

The campaign with Number 1 reflects a similar message. Its philosophy, ‘nothing is impossible’, emphasises determination, endurance, and the drive to pursue one’s goals.

If Den represents dedication to his craft, Number 1 has spent over 20 years promoting energy and resilience among Vietnamese consumers. The brand has positioned itself as a companion for young people pursuing their ambitions.

Number 1 has also been associated with high-profile achievements that highlight perseverance and endurance. From the Vietnamese flag being raised on Mount Everest in 2008 to runner Vu Phuong Thanh’s journeys across the Gobi Desert and the Arctic, the brand has highlighted milestones that celebrate determination and the drive to overcome challenges.

Beyond highlighting individual achievements, Number 1 has also engaged in community initiatives nationwide, including building bridges, providing clean water to remote areas, supporting families in need, assisting underprivileged children, and funding scientific and educational projects.

These efforts reflect the brand’s broader goal of encouraging ambition and contributing to Vietnam’s development.

The collaboration with Den has resonated with Gen Z audiences, conveying a message of energy, perseverance, and self-expression. A limited-edition Number 1 can features a red-and-gold design with Den’s image, symbolising individuality and sustained dedication.

The new can has drawn attention from young consumers, becoming a popular collectible among Gen Z. Beyond its design, the product reflects the broader message of sustaining energy and perseverance in pursuing personal goals.

The collaboration also emphasises a sense of Vietnamese pride and resilience. “If the Vietnamese spirit of yesterday was about defending our land, today it is about daring to dream and build. Vietnamese youth have the courage and resilience to overcome challenges,” said a Number 1 representative.

From Den’s 15-year journey in music to Number 1’s two-decade legacy of supporting ambition, the campaign embodies a broader theme: encouraging a new generation to pursue their goals with determination, resilience, and a commitment to becoming their best selves.

On October 26, Vietnam and the United States agreed to issue a Joint Statement on the Framework for a Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade Agreement. The statement contained many encouraging details that have raised new expectations for Vietnam’s major export sectors.

Favourable tariff outlook offers boost for Vietnamese exporters
Seafood, garments and textiles, and woodwork are among key export items to US market

Both sides will continue discussions and implement steps towards completing the agreement, based on principles of openness, constructiveness, equality, ensuring mutual benefit and consideration of each side’s development level.

Speaking to VIR, Nguyen The Minh, head of Research at Yuanta Vietnam Securities, noted that during the suspension of reciprocal tariffs, the US signalled its intent to impose higher duties on technology products it can manufacture domestically.

In contrast, consumer goods that the US relies heavily on imports for may see tariff adjustments.

“Key sectors such as textiles and garments, processed foods, seafood, and fine wood products are those where the US remains import-dependent,” Minh said. “If high tariffs were imposed, American consumers would bear the brunt through higher prices, adding to inflationary pressures.”

He added that higher tariffs on a wide range of products could slow US economic growth, reduce investment, and raise inflation through cost-push effects. In that context, the Federal Reserve may adopt a slower pace of interest rate adjustments.

“The US needs to reassess its tariff policy with greater differentiation across product groups. For items that depend on imports from Vietnam, such as textiles, seafood, and furniture, reducing tariffs to zero per cent is entirely feasible. In that scenario, US consumers would be the first to benefit,” Minh noted.

In the garments and textiles sector, analysts believe Vietnam holds a strong competitive edge, as it is the world’s second-largest textile apparel exporter and the third-largest supplier to the US market. As the US does not produce textiles domestically and many major global brands have manufacturing plants in Vietnam, any progress in tariff negotiations could lead to further import duty reductions, possibly even to zero per cent. Agricultural and seafood exports are also well-positioned to benefit from potential tariff cuts, enhancing their competitiveness against regional peers.

According to Saigon-Hanoi Securities JSC (SHS), concerns that tariff policies under the Trump administration might hurt Vietnam’s economy are gradually fading. Even when facing reciprocal tariffs of up to 20 per cent, local production and investment activities have continued to show strong growth momentum. A more favourable tariff regime is expected to open new growth opportunities for Vietnamese export businesses and related stocks.

Export-oriented businesses have recorded strong performance since the outset of the year, with robust nine-month results. In the first nine months of 2025, garment maker TNG Investment and Trading JSC reported revenue of $228.4 million, up 14.6 per cent on-year, and net profit of $11.2 million, up 16.6 per cent on-year.

For 2025, TNG targets $324 million in revenue and $13.6 million in net profit. With the current results, the company has achieved 70.5 per cent of its full-year revenue goal and 82.3 per cent of its full-year profit target. TNG representatives said the firm remains on track with a positive business outlook.

Another strong performer is Garment 10 Corporation. In Q3 of 2025, the company posted a net profit of $1.94 million, up 52 per cent on-year, setting a record quarterly profit since 2023. For the first nine months, its revenue reached $133.6 million, up 10 per cent, and net profit was $3.12 million, up 59 per cent on-year.

In the seafood sector, several big players like Vinh Hoan, Sao Ta Foods, and Nam Viet all reported positive results.

Accordingly, Vinh Hoan recorded consolidated Q3 net profit of $18.2 million, up 35 per cent, and a nine-month total of $48.2 million, up 38.6 per cent on-year.

Sao Ta Foods posted Q3 profit of $4.47 million, up 18 per cent and a nine-month total of $10.05 million, up 6.7 per cent on-year. Nam Viet stood out with Q3 profit of $11.32 million, surging 917 per cent on-year, and nine-month profit of nearly $29.9 million, 17 times higher than one year ago. .

In the wood export segment, Phu Tai JSC has already met its full-year 2025 profit plan after just nine months, with pre-tax profit reaching $1.4 million. For Q4, the company targets an additional $200,000 in profit, which, if achieved, would exceed the annual target by 14 per cent.

Nguyen The Minh believes the likelihood of a favourable tariff outcome is high as both sides enter the framework negotiation phase.

“A well-designed policy could open new growth opportunities for Vietnamese exporters and related stocks, with some goods potentially seeing tariffs cut below 20 per cent – or even to zero,” Minh said. “Investors should focus on companies with solid fundamentals, leading positions in strategic sectors, strong growth potential, and reasonable valuations.”
